02
How the LRC exam works
The theory exam for the Long Range Certificate lasts 20 minutes and draws 14 questions, composed as follows:
- 14 questions from Funk
NoteThis is the LRC supplementary part, the usual route for SRC holders. Without an SRC the SRC paper is added, plus a practical part on MF/HF and satellite.
03
How the LRC is marked
Every question is marked with 2, 1 or 0 points: fully known, partly known, not known. That makes 28 points possible.
A points total alone is not enough. Each section carries its own minimum:
- 11 correct in Funk
Miss one of these and the exam is failed, however strong the rest was. Keelwake applies exactly this rule in its exam simulation instead of a simple points threshold.
04
What the topics cover
The examination follows fixed topic areas. These are the terms behind them — each links to its explanation in the glossary:
Funk & Technik — VHF marine radio & SRC · DSC — Digital Selective Calling · MMSI · NAVTEX · AIS · GPS & chartplotter · Radar & radar reflector.
