Lake Constance licence

Lake Constance licence category D

The sailing category: general theory, 27 sailing questions and a practical examination under sail.

BSP D is not currently available in the Keelwake trainer. The public certificate page explains theory, sailing questions, knots and the practical exam.

Exam at a glance

One category, one defined exam format.

Category D combines the 60-minute general section with 27 sailing questions in a further 20 minutes. Applicants who already hold category A take only the sailing section when adding D.

Practical examination

Knowledge has to work on the boat.

The practical sailing test requires sufficient wind. It includes man overboard using a Q-turn and rescue gybe, heaving to, anchoring, reefing, setting, lowering and changing sails, plus clear commands. Eight specified knots are tested as well.
